The Rotto swim is 2 weeks away.. after so many months of training, preparation, obsessing, dreaming.
My sister asked me today 'do you ever think of the S-word?'
And mostly not. Although looking for images just now was a bit confronting.
It is the other S-word that causes most of the angst - the common stinger.

It was our squad's last big swim today - 10km with our support paddlers to practice the whole feeding and drinking scenario. The sun was shining through the clear water, meaning that we could see every single stinger. And there were large swarms of enormous stingers... some of the tentacles were over a metre long. Managed to miss most of them, but it meant a disjointed, obstacle course kind of swim trying to go around them.
That was the way down, but on the way back it was fine. Maybe all the stingers were swept out to sea by the howling easterly.
In fact, the whole swim was surprisingly fine. It took about 2 hours 40 mins, and I was surprised by how quickly the time passed. At about 2 hours in I had to start singing songs to myself to stop myself getting fixated on how long until the next drink stop, but really, it was all good. I'm ready and raring to go for 26th February.
